<p><font color="#FFFF00"><b>Im September 1991 begann meine Auslandskarriere bei
den UNO-Truppen (UNDOF</b><sup>*)</sup><b>) am Golan. Nach meinem Beginn als stellvertretender Kompaniekommandant wurde
ich Informationsoffizier im Hauptquartier und damit einer der bestinformierten
Leute der Force. Es war unheimlich spannend, sämtliche Neuigkeiten des Nahen
und Mittleren Ostens zu sammeln und aufzubereiten, damit die wirklich hohen
Herren (sogar die in New York) einen Überblick über die aktuelle Lage in
diesem Pulverfaß bekommen konnten! Nachdem mein Einsatz zweieinhalb Jahre
dauerte, konnte ich viel in der Gegend herumfahren und bereiste Syrien von der
türkischen Grenze im Norden bis zum Euphrat im Osten. Auch das südliche
Nachbarland Jordanien ist äußerst interessant, und so fuhr ich nicht weniger
als viermal dorthin. Nachdem diese Reisen immer nur vier Tage dauerten, konnte
ich in Jordanien leider nicht alle Sehenswürdigkeiten besichtigen. Die
wesentlichen aber, Petra und Jerash, waren in jeder dieser Fahrten mit
inbegriffen!

<p><font color="#00FF00"><b>In <a name="En">September</a> 1991 I started my international carreer by
joining the UN-troops on the Golan Heights (UNDOF</b><sup>*)</sup><b>). After having started as Deputy Company Commander, I
was appointed Information Officer at Headquarters, which made me one of the
best informed persons of the Force. It was very interesting to gather each and
every news of the Middle East and to evaluate them in order to give an accurate
overview to the really high-ranking people (even in New York) of the current
situation of this political volcano! My term of duty lasted for two-and-a-half
years, so I had the opportunity to travel around a lot, from the Turkish border
in the North to the Euphrates River in the East. Also Syria's southern neighbor
Jordan is a very interesting country, that is why I travelled there four times.
Unfortunately, every of these trips lasted only for four days, so I was not able
to visit all points of interest. But the main places, Petra and Jerash, were
included in each and every of these trips!

<p><font color="#00FFFF"><b><a name="Fr">En</a> septembre 1991, je commençais ma carrière
internationale avec les forces de l'ONU sur le Golan (UNDOF</b><sup>*)</sup><b>). Au
début, j'étais commandeur adjoint d'une compagnie, mais après huit mois j'ai
changé mon poste à l'officier de l'information au quartier général. C'était
très interessant de collecter toutes les nouvelles du Proche Orient et les
évaluer pour donner mes supérieurs (même à New York) un image éxact de ce
volcain politique! Comme j'étais au Golan pendant deux ans et demi, j'avais
toutes les possibilités de voyager toute la Syrie de la frontière turque au
nord jusqu'à l'Euphrates a l'est. Et parce-que la Jordanie, le voisin du sud,
est aussi un pays très interessant, j'y étais quatre fois. Malheureusement,
chaqueun de ces voyages en Jordanie durait seulement quatre jours, alors j'ai manqué
quelques curiosités. Mais Petra et Jerash étaient des points fixes pendent
chaque de ces tours!
